So, if you are like me, you get these annoying emails from Apple, Microsoft, PayPal, etc. (the list goes on) and the emails read something like this:
your account needs updating
your account is being used at IP address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx in Germany
It's time to change your password on the account
The truth is, what the emails really says is this:
Go ahead sucker and click on this link, log in and we just hacked your account!
The question is, "How can I avoid this scenario happening to me?" Here is a short list of some quick ways to avoid being scammed:
Never log into a site with a username and password from an email link you did not initiate
Hover over the email address and the link in the email (usually these are pretty easy to tell they are non-valid addresses or sites)
Check the spelling of the email. If there are misspelled words or bad grammar, chances are the email is SPAM
When in doubt, open the email on your mobile device. Mobile devices are less susceptible to virus and malware attacks
If the email and link looks valid, get a phone number of the company requesting your login information and call them to verify the request
Always remember, God gave you a brain....use it!
